Hello everybody! I hope that you had a wonderful Golden Week. It has been a bit rainy at the beginning of May, but the temperature feels very comfortable. Enjoy this weather before it gets too hot in the summer! Today, we would like to study to discuss music and explore the history of a special company that has its roots right here in Nagoya.

Hoshino Gakki Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company that makes musical instruments, and it has an interesting story. It started in 1908 when Matsujiro Hoshino opened a bookstore called Hoshino Shoten in Nagoya. In the 1920s, the company started selling musical instruments, especially Spanish guitars. This was the beginning of what would become a big name in both guitar and drum making. By 1935, Hoshino began making guitars under the Ibanez brand, named after a Spanish guitar maker, and shifted from just selling instruments to making them.
In the years after World War II, Hoshino Gakki grew and began selling products internationally, especially in the United States in the 1960s. The company became famous in the 1970s and 1980s because of Ibanez guitars, which became popular with musicians like Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert. In 1974, Hoshino also started making drums under the Tama name, which became known for being strong and innovative. Today, with its headquarters in Nagoya, Hoshino Gakki continues to be one of the most respected companies in the music world, with production in Japan and other countries.
Do you play an Ibanez guitar or Tama drums? Do you play any musical instruments? Please feel free to talk to your teachers about music when you come to Bridge again. Have a great day!
