Nintendo, the world-famous Japanese video game company, just released a new game system called the Switch 2. This is the first big new console they’ve made in eight years. The Switch 2 follows the original Switch, which was very popular and sold over 152 million units around the world. The new Switch 2 can be used in different ways — like a handheld game, a tablet, or connected to a TV. It comes with controllers, a charger, and even 25 games, including a new version of Mario Kart. Nintendo hopes to sell 15 million of these new consoles by March 2026.
People were very excited about the release. In many places, fans waited in long lines to buy the console. In Japan, there was even a lottery to decide who could buy one, and over 2 million people entered. One lucky winner, Koji Takahashi, said he was happy players could see each other while playing. Another fan, Satoshi Ayame, didn’t win the lottery but still went to the store to see the event. Even though the Switch 2 costs around ¥49,980, fans believe it’s worth the price.
