Traveling during holidays / 休暇中の旅行
France and Japan both have public holidays, but they are organized differently.
フランスにも日本にも祝日がありますが、その仕組みには違いがあります。
France has fewer public holidays than Japan. However, many of them fall on weekdays, and if a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, some employees may take an extra day off to enjoy a longer weekend.
フランスは日本より祝日の数が少ないですが、平日に祝日があることも多くあります。
火曜日や木曜日が祝日の場合は、間の日を休んで連休にする人もいます。
Japan has more public holidays spread throughout the year. Some of them create long holiday periods,
such as Golden Week, when many people travel or spend time with their families.
日本では、一年を通して祝日が多くあります。ゴールデンウィークのような大型連休もあり、多くの人が旅行や家族との時間を楽しみます。
Vacation habits / 休暇の過ごし方
French people spend their vacations in many different ways. Some enjoy relaxing at the beach or in the countryside, while others visit family, go camping, or travel abroad.
フランスでは、海や田舎でゆっくり過ごしたり、家族を訪ねたり、キャンプや海外旅行を楽しんだりと、
さまざまな過ごし方があります。
In Japan, many people return to their hometown during major holidays to spend time with their families.
Others enjoy festivals, fireworks, shopping, or short trips around the country.
日本では、大型連休に実家へ帰省する人も多くいます。また、お祭りや花火大会に行ったり、
買い物や国内旅行を楽しんだりする人もいます。
Long weekends “do the bridge” / 「橋」を作る？（連休）
In France, if a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, many employees take an extra day off to create a four-day weekend.
フランスでは、祝日が火曜日や木曜日になると、その間の日を休んで4連休にする人が多くいます。
This is called “faire le pont” (“to make a bridge”).
この習慣はフランス語で “faire le pont”（橋を作る） と呼ばれています。
It is a well-known tradition in France and gives people more time to travel or relax.
旅行に行ったり、ゆっくり過ごしたりするための、フランスではよく知られた習慣です。
