Most people on Earth are right-handed. Why?

Hello all you wonderful students of English!  We hope spring is going well for you.  Today, we want to discuss why most humans are right-handed.  Have you ever noticed that, all over the world, people usually write, brush their theeth, throw a ball, play a musical instrument, and do many other kinds of tasks and activities with their right hands?  Scientists have been looking into this phenomenon, and they just might have a explanation that will help us understand the situation.

About 90% of people in the world are right-handed. Scientists have tried for many years to understand why. Researchers from University of Oxford think it may be connected to how humans changed over time. When early humans started walking on two legs, their hands became free to do more things. Humans also developed large brains, which helped them learn skills like making and using tools. If most people used the same hand, it became easier to work together for jobs like hunting and cooking.

Scientists compared humans with monkeys and apes to look for answers. They studied 41 different kinds of primates and found that monkeys and apes usually use both hands equally. Humans are different because we have longer legs compared to our arms and because the left side of the brain controls the right hand. The left side of the brain also helps with movement and coordination. Researchers think these differences may explain why most humans are right-handed.

Are you right-handed?  Do you know anybody who is left-handed? Please discuss this topic with your teachers at BRIDGE when you visiit our school.  Have a great day!
